1956年貓王進軍影壇，拍下首部電影《Love Me Tender》」，1957年拍攝自傳電影《Loving You》，1960年，貓王開拍退伍後的首部電影《G.I. Blues從軍樂》，1961年2月25日田納西州州長宣布此日為「貓王日」。1961年十一月，貓王的第8部電影《藍色夏威夷》和原聲帶專輯同時推出，歌曲包括了《Blue Hawaii》、《No More》、《Moonlight Swim》和《Can't Help Falling in Love》。專輯榜首停留了20週。1961年到1968年之間主演了21部電影，這些好萊塢影片大多粗製濫造，貓王忙著拍電影，歌曲也都是為電影而唱，成績平平。

1970年代以後健康、經濟、藝術方面都遇到了嚴重的問題，整日處在昏睡狀態，醫生說他的身體狀況比八十歲的老人還糟。到1977年他去世之前的4年中，有5次被送進醫院急救的記錄。1973年10月貓王因肺炎以及肝炎住院，醫生建議他多休息，湯姆帕克向貓王謊稱出現財務危機，為了解決經濟問題，貓王疲於奔命的巡迴演唱，1976年整年都在巡迴演唱。貓王生平記憶力驚人，小時候能從收音機裡記下所有的歌詞，讓雙親感到吃驚，1977年6月，貓王最後一次在拉皮德城舉行演唱會時，連《溫柔地愛我》（Love Me Tender）歌詞都記不起來了。

普萊斯里經常被認為是搖滾樂歷史上影響力最大的歌手，發行過77張唱片和101支單曲，曾經在一天之內同時發行7張唱片，多達149歌曲進入美國Bill Board唱片排行榜前100名，40首進入前10名，全球總發行量超過10億張，因此又有搖滾樂之王（The King of Rock 'n' Roll）的譽稱。從1969年至1977年貓王共舉行1,100場演唱會。共演出31部電影。樂團披頭四成員約翰·藍儂說，「貓王雖死，但搖滾不滅，貓王萬歲。」
